Waves to Washi to Wings: Traditional Japanese Paper in Contemporary Kites.

Abstrakt: The article explores the evolution of kites and the use of Japanese paper in contemporary kites. According to Tom Crouch, senior curator of Aeronautics at the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum, the kite is the oldest aerodynamic device which is capable of sustaining flight. It is mentioned that the kites have probably existed for 3,000 years ago in different cultures like Japan, Korea, and Malaysia. Moreover, it is stated that the kites were made from different array of materials according to culture including leaf kites in South Pacific, tissue and bamboo in Indian fighting kites, and silk and bamboo for Chinese creations.
