Abstrakt: This paper considers the image reconstruction for the three-dimensional (3-D) digital object and discusses the feasibility from the theoretical viewpoint. If the image can be reconstructed from a limited number of projection directions of X-ray pictures, it will be useful to reduce the scanning time or to reduce the X-ray exposure, which have been problems in X-ray CT. This study takes the position that the projection directions are to be limited to a small number. It is shown that as long as the object is a 3-D digital object, theoretically the original 3-D image can be reconstructed accurately from the 2-D projection data obtained by irradiating the object along a particular direction by a penetrating beam such as an X-ray. In other words, the following sequential computation for reconstructing the original 3-D image is presented . For the 3-D digital object, a parallel beam is irradiated along a particular (a, 6) direction. From the obtained 2-D projection picture, the density is read by a specified high-density sampling. Then the 3-D image is reconstructed accurately from the 2-D projection data. The result of reconstruction by the proposed algorithm is shown using a computer simulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
