This paper pulls together the common ground agreements from many recent studies in literacy and literacy-related areas, particularly those pertinent to the literacy development and assessment of the pre-school and kindergarten-age child. It discusses developing the reading and literacy motivation of pre-school and kindergarten children, reviews the related research, draws comparisons between the goal of developing social skills along with literacy and the goals of content reading. The author also discusses the appropriateness of "the fit," presents her own impressions, and leaves it for us (the readers) to ponder and decide for ourselves. Finally, the author shares her findings in easy-to-access short lists. Reading education students can find any explanations needed in the pertinent lists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
