Abstrakt: Chapter 8 of the book "Construction and Representation of Race and Ethnicity in the Caribbean and the World" is presented. The chapter examines the racial and ethnic development of Jamaican identity. It cites that Jamaica follows the Caribbean pattern of tripartite racial division as represented by white, brown and black. Also discussed is Jamaica's struggle to reclaim black dignity through ethnic ideological terms and emancipation movements, such as the Maroon rebellion and Rastafarianism.
