Abstrakt: The article presents the painting of James Abbot McNeill Whistler entitled "At The Piano" used for classroom art instruction. It aims to introduce students in grades 7-9 to various interpretations of the painting and to analyze the painting's mood in terms of subject matter and composition. It is intended for students to identify four possible interpretations of the painting, describe its compositional features and established its mood in terms of visual clues. The painting subject is the grand piano where the household assembled after dinner and its mood is one of contemplation and intimacy. Questions sets related to the painting which include if the painting strictly a portrait, a genre scene and a conversation piece are also presented.
