Abstrakt: The article explores the development of William James' political thought. The author examines the philosopher's conception of mind, consciousness and truth as well as his theory of selective interest as determining the experience. He shows how James overcame British empiricism and how he anticipated the psychoanalytical conceptions of human knowledge by legitimating the existence of a subconsiousness Self and the psychic process outside the primary consciousness.
