Abstrakt: Chapter 4 of the book "Spatial Dynamics and Female Development in Victorian Art and Novels" is presented. The author examines the use of spatial images and language by Victorian novelist George Eliot in developing the protagonist Dorothea Brooke in his 1872 novel "Middlemarch." She cites that the protagonist is depicted as an individual with great potential and a vision to make her mind and community better but is confronted with social and gender limitations. She discusses the personal connection of Eliot with the arts, which is evident in the novel.
