Abstrakt: The article discusses the challenge posed by the phenomenon of McCarthyism on the young John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Joseph Raymond McCarthy rose from his position as a lawyer to a Wisconsin circuit court judgeship. From there he became a Republican Senator for the state and his battle for the enforcement and extension of anti-communist legislation began. According to the author, Kennedy's position on McCarthy was difficult to analyze because of his varying views. A factor that made Kennedy reluctant was family considerations.
