The article discusses the therapeutic nature of gardening. As assistant general manager at Behnke Nurseries in Potomac, Maryland, the author has interviewed all types of job applicants interested in working with plants, including overqualified professionals. They were willing to receive an unskilled laborer's wages since they believed gardening would make them feel better. The nursery also hired disabled people, which helped them become extroverted and increased their confidence and self-esteem. |
