Abstrakt: The article discusses the role of toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 in the mediation of maladaptive left ventricular (LV) remodeling and impairment of the cardiac function after myocardial infarction. LV remodeling is a main determinant of morbidity and mortality following myocardial infarction because the remodeling leads to congestive heart failure. TLR serve as pattern recognition receptors within the innate immune system. Activation of TLR4 usually results in inflammatory response and is involved in extracellular matrix degradation.
