Abstrakt: This article describes the patterns of fish distribution for Guam's extensive Asia-Pacific population and elaborates the relevance of the distribution of fish for the reinforcement and maintenance of long-standing cultural traditions. Briefly discussed are several reports commenting on the lack of social and cultural analyses of fishing practices in certain villages in Guam and the impact of the island's Westernization on its subsistence economy and several traditional cultural patterns. Findings of a study about traditional Chamorro cultural patterns of fish distribution were analyzed which suggested that the strength of the traditional Chamorro practice of giving fish fiestas may be greater than the influence of earnings.
