The article analyzes species richness and the ecological composition of woody plant assemblages at four altitudinal levels along a caatinga-brejo forest continuum which is located between Triunfo and Serra Talhada municipalities in Brazil. It says that differences in water needed by plant species showing various life-history traits are the underlying mechanisms that drive spatial variations of the attributes of plant assemblages. It emphasizes the need to identify mechanisms that drive plant species spatial distribution. |
