The article features the study conducted on the significance of operations research (OP) in effective preparedness and response to emergency situations in the U.S. Researchers studied the major calamities and disasters that hit the country to determine what immediate factors are needed to address the situation. It shows that OP is vital in understanding the physics of high consequence, low probability (HCLP) events and the consequences of alternative policies of preparedness and response. |
