Abstrakt: The article presents a study which shows the effect of the sewing threads in seam quality and machine set-up-objective evaluation. It is posed that in today's global and competitive apparel industry the introduction of intelligent sewing machines in order to lessen the human intervention needed to adjust machines and to identify operation anomalies has an increasing importance. Relative to this, the University of Minho in Portugal has been playing an essential role in this field. It is established that the use of different types of sewing threads affect seam quality and this can be identified both in thread tension variation and in the Stitcheck factor.
