Abstrakt: The article presents an interpretation of the Tahitian symbolism aspects of the painting "Te Tamari No Atua" by Paul Gauguin. The level of meaning behind this nativity scene can be carried a step further. Pahura, or the Tahitian Mary, appears to be sleeping and like the stable and her child she is bathed in light. This signifies the material world marked by the physical birth.
