The article discusses the forecast regarding the impact of the new Medicare-severity diagnosis-related group system (MS-DRG), proposed by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, on hospitals in the U.S. It is expected that the new MS-DRG system will help increase revenues of urban hospitals while leading to revenue loss at rural hospitals. Fortunately, the expected losses can be offset through clinical documentation programs that ensure proper coding for more accurate payment. |
