A biography of Alberto Celaya, who was hired by explorer Carl Lumholtz to accompany him on his Gran Desierto expedition in Mexico in 1909, is presented. Celaya was born in February 1885 to parents, José Jesús Matías Celaya Ortega and Inéz Rodríguez. As a formal education, Celaya spent four years at the local school in Caborca in Sonora, Mexico. He married Josefa Figueroa at age 18 in Caborca and had 6 children. He was twenty-four years old when he went with Lumholtz's expedition to the Pinacate. |
