The author discusses her efforts to pass legislation in Sierra Leone to protect the interests of people living with HIV/AIDS. The Forum of African and Arab Parliamentarians (FAAPPD), the Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Women Against AIDS in Africa (SWAASL) have all helped develop the proposed law. All eight provisions of the legislation, which is modeled on Chad's 2004 HIV/AIDS legislation, are outlined. Statistics related to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Sierra Leone are provided. |
