The article reports on Sotheby's three days auction series in October 1991 in Hong Kong. The auction was participated by some specialists in Chinese art and antiques, contingents from Taiwan and major collectors and dealers from Hong Kong. A pale grey-green Yueh-yao spouted funerary jar with cover dating to the Five Dynasties was expected to be valued by over a million dollars, but was sold at the lower estimate of $1.5 million to collector James Lally. One collector purchased Lot 132, which was a finely potted deep cup of the Yung Cheng reign painted with scenes of the Eight Immortals. |
