The article discusses the number of items of plate produced in the shadow of Hans Holbein and other designers. The first two vessels have the distinction of being the first known two-handled cups in the history of English plate. The earlier, hallmarked London 1533-34, was given to Corpus Christie College by Robert Morwent, second president of the College. The small handles of billet or ladder design are cast and connected to the body by elegant anthemion-like terminals. It is apparent that the cover of this cup is not the original. |
