The article focuses on the friendship of artist James McNeill Whistler with brewer Lewis Page Jarvis. It is considered that Whistler and Jarvis have met in the early seventies. A different kind of bargain was made between them in which Whistler agreed to paint Jarvis' portrait. Jarvis taste to the oriental art has further brought the two men together, and his own work as a painter and tastes as a collector provides most insight to their friendship. |
