Abstrakt: The article offers facts about European artist W. O. J. Nieuwenkamp. On his visits to the islands of Bali and Lombok in Indonesia, he made a large number of drawings which later on would be turned into etchings. He successfully represents the Bali atmosphere, particularly in his drawings, etchings and woodcuts. It reveals that the purity and unspoilt nature of the island and its inhabitants were a permanent source of inspiration to him. Also, Nieuwenkamp has patiently trained himself in the representation of the rich language of forms of the Indies vegetation and the timeless grandeur of the tropical forest.
