The article focuses on the findings from the archaeological excavations in the Medici villa at Cafaggiolo in Florence, Italy in 1999. The excavation was intended to determine the original location of the kilns and of the dump for the kiln wasters. Some of the findings have elegant grotesques, interlace and strapwork pattern which suggest that several painters who worked at the manufactory during the first half of the sixteenth century had experience in manuscript illumination. |
