The article discusses the status of the 100 Gigabits per second (Gbits/sec) transmission development which is needed by the data communication industry to support the services and video-based applications. The growth of the network and Internet traffic have led to a demand to seek for a higher speed for the local area networks (LANs) and the storage area networks (SANs). The 100 Gbits/sec transmission offers a solution for the applications which need a bandwidth beyond the existing capabilities. |
