The article discusses the Marine Corps' need for knowledge on the culture of their environment. It discusses Captain Roald Amundsen's successful navigation through the ice fields as a basis to explain the need for native knowledge for the Corps. It also compares the tactics of the Zouaves and the United States Marines to identify the inefficiency resulting from the lack of cultural knowledge about environment. |
