Today, the automotive industry faces the task of resolving the apparent contradiction between the increasing performance demanded by the market, growing legal requirements, less fuel consumption and ever increasing cost pressure. In this article BMW shows, how the optimization of the powertrain can contribute to „efficient dynamics”. Potentials will be identified and optimization measures will be explained. The characteristics of current transmission systems, changed boundary conditions and trends in transmission development will be analyzed, and aspects of future technology decisions will finally be discussed.
