THE HANFORD EDUCATION ACTION LEAGUE: AN INFORMED CITIZENRY AND RADIATION HEALTH EFFECTS.

Abstrakt: The article presents a case study which examines the role of the Hanford Education Action League (HEAL) in raising concerns about the health effects of Hanford Site, a nuclear facility in Washington. HEAL is a citizen action group which aim to inform the negative effects of radiation from the operations of Hanford Site. It addresses the ways in which six of the organization's founding members including Joan Mootry, Merle Prater and Karen Dorn Steele came to perceive Hanford as a threat to the public health and environment. It is stated that the organization had mobilized hundreds of individuals devoted to inform the public about Hanford's operations.
