A Simple Test to Distinguish between D-Glucose and D-Fructose.

Abstrakt: The article presents a test to distinguish between D-glucose and D-fructose, two commonly used carbohydrates in teaching laboratories. It says that preparation of the alkaline potassium ferricyanide reagent is done by dissolving 1 gram of potassium ferricyanide in 100 milliliter of 20 percent aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution in distilled water and cooled to ambient temperature. Procedure for the test is provided. According to the findings, D-fructose reacts more rapidly than D-glucose.
