The article features the Bryde's Whale that was seen in the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand. Bryde's whale is a rorqual whale under the baleen group of whales. Rorqual whales make up the family Balaenopteridae, the species with pleats on their undersides that allow their bodies to expand during feeding. The Bryde's whale has 285-350 baleen plates and is commonly observed in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans. |
