The article reports on the awards given to elementary students at rural schools through the Qhubeka-Eco-Schools Climate Change competition in South Africa. Qhubeka, a non-profit organization funded by Axiz, helps provide children in rural areas and townships with reliable and simple-to-service bicycles to enable them to get to school faster and attend more lessons that will enable them to get better jobs. Moreover, the competition took the form of teachers implementing lessons on the Climate Change theme, and learners and teachers who have participated in the project will be helping their schools to work toward achieving Eco-Schools flag status for 2006. |
