Abstrakt: The article chronicles the cotton-breeding career of James Andrew Webb. It highlights his success in cultivating and marketing the purple cotton he discovered in 1928 which eventually was granted a registered trademark on March 13, 1934. It discusses his efforts to determine and appreciate his purple cotton in the wake of the Great Depression of 1929 which had a devastating effect on cotton farming in Oklahoma.
