The author discusses how his encounter with jazz artist Danilo Perez, during the 2007 Panama Jazz Festival, taught him that artists and educators can play a role in building better communities. He was inspired by Danilo's pure love of music and its practitioners. He has observed that in the midst of rehearsals and conferences, Danilo would find time to visit the classrooms, play and dance with the little children and lovingly preach to them about discipline and the importance of studying. |
