Abstrakt: The article discusses a study which investigated the relationship of underlying motivations and basic self-concepts as measured by a projective instrument administered before participation in an emergent group. The study tested several hypotheses including the hypothesis that effectiveness in group participation will depend in part on the desire of the individual to establish harmonious social relationships with others. The researchers concluded that the results of the study may be interpreted as indicating that effectiveness in an initially unstructured group situation is systematically related to the individual's personal motivations and self-concepts.
