The article focuses on Chardonnay, a very popular wine variety. Research at Davis University suggests that it originated as a cross between Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc in a village called Chardonnay in Maconnais in the southern part of Burgundy. It reached Australia and New Zealand in the last third of the 20th century. Site selection plays an important part in making growing vineyards for Chardonnay wines and the winemaking process can be done in two ways which include the modern bunch pressing and the traditional crushing. |
