Abstrakt: Nomadic pastoralists are traditionally known for moving from one place to another in search of greener pastures for their herds. However in some cases they have taken the option of settling down in places that they have found comfortable for their herds. This option invariably allows them to engage in other social and economic activities, not possible in a nomadic existence. The study focused on the effect of the sedentarised lifestyle on livelihood activities of Fulani women in an area of Ogun State in Nigeria. Multistage sampling procedures were used to select 80 women among Fulani households and information was sought on activities brought about as a result of their sedetarised lifestyle. The results of the study showed that sedentarisation made it possible for Fulani women to engage in livestock and crop production as well as related non-farm activities. In addition, the sedentarised lifestyle impacted on the households of Fulani women socially and economically. The study thus recommended that policies aimed at enhancing the lives of Fulani households that have opted for sedentarisation and measures that would make life more comfortable for them, should be put in place by the Nigeria Government and its development partners.
