Our objectives are to study and fully characterize the mechanisms by which siloxanes impact the chemical and physical processes associated with the burning behavior of polyester. The initial period of research has focused on ways to analyze the effects of silicones on the burning behavior of polyester fiber mats to simulate fiberfill applications. In addition to exploring various avenues and approaches for analysis of the burning behavior of such treated materials we are examining how different silicone systems affect burning behavior.
