The article focuses on Linux as a server operating system. Operators and businesses in the retail and hospitality industry are looking into using Linux to reduce costs. Linux, a UNIX-type operating system, was developed in the 1990s by Linus Torvalds. IBM has said that Linux is considered the fastest growing operating system in the market today. After having a operating system, there is a need for point-of-sale (POS) systems. In 2002, the number of POS systems running Linux have increased. Linux offers cost efficiency when it comes to licensing and installation without sacrificing functionality. |
