The article focuses on Richard James Wheeler's book about James Stanier Clarke's portrait of author Jane Austen. It is said that Richard Wheeler only made the connection between the woman depicted in Clarke's album with Jane Austen when he saw a photo of a sketch featuring Jane Austen. However, Wheeler found inconsistencies in the descriptions written by those who knew Jane Austen. Wheeler matched the clothing worn by the figure with the description of clothes and accessories mentioned by Jane in her letters. |
