Abstrakt: The article discusses the experiences of the author in social work with reference to Jewish content, or the fields of religious services and observances and education in the Jewish religious tradition, in the Young Men's Hebrew Association (YMHA) and Jewish Centers. The author recalled the confusion that arose with regard to the respective roles of synagogues and to the association's proper due to the use of the term Jewish centers. He emphasized that synagogues function primarily in the fields of Jewish content, while the Young Men's & Young Women's Hebrew Association is primarily a secular agency concerned with conducting a secular program of leisure time, recreational and personality-building activities conducted by professionally-educated personnel.
