The article discusses values and historical factors influencing the political choices of Jews in the U.S. Jewish political attitudes have generally reflected respect and support for the causes of both internationalism and Liberalism. The Eastern European Jews were completely apolitical. Jews were excluded either because they were Jews or politics was open only to the aristocracy. The only experience Eastern Jews had was the self government in the Shtettel and the Ghettos. Many of the immigrants came with strongly leftist feelings and sought radical change. |
