Abstrakt: The article presents an encyclopedia entry for significs. It was initiated by Lady Victory A. M. L. Welby of England in the 1890s, with the intention of marketing the beginnings of a new science of meaning and communication that would combine philosophical, linguistic, logical and psychological aspects. She broadened the study of significs, which include sentences and discourse, took note of the intentional states of the utterer and the interpreter, and argued that context serves to shape the meaning of utterance.
