The article relates the friendship between retired environmental engineer Barbara-Ann Gamboa and U.S. Army Lieutenant George Intile during World War II in the Philippines. Several days a week, Intile took Gamboa to the airfield. He went over every part of his Piper Cub with Gamboa, detailing its function. He explained the physics of flight, how a wing generates lift by diverting air downward. |
