The article supports data collection independent software vendor Eric Luoma and his creation of Scout Inc. Luoma, former value-added reseller (VAR), started the company as he was not earning as much as he used to as a VAR selling automatic identification and data collection (AIDC) products. He projects a 45% growth rate in 2006 for Scout Inc., compared to the 25% in 2005 because of the application service provider (ASP) which enables users to access an application via Web browser instead of software installation. He suggests knowing which clients would value an ASP warehouse management system (WMS) application and building a recurring AIDC revenue stream. The company has an inventory management/WMS application bundled with bar code scanners as its primary product. |
