This article talks about metatarsal shaft fractures and fractures of the proximal fifth metatarsal. According to the authors, pain exacerbated by weight bearing is the most common symptom of the fractures. They said acute metatarsal fractures occur as a result of direct or indirect mechanisms. They stated that isolated, minimally displaced first metatarsal fractures can usually be treated in a non-weight-bearing short-leg cast. |
