| Abstrakt: | The article presents the biography of Captain William Mein Smith, a land surveyor in New Zealand in the early 19th century. At age 14, he entered the army as a gentleman cadet, obtaining his commission in the Royal Artillery in 1822. For six years he served in Ireland and Canada. He worked with Robert Park and Wellington Carrington to survey the land of the Maori people in 1839. |
