The article discusses the interpretation of philosopher Herbert Spencer concerning the phenomenon of play. Spencer as a play theorist, developed the Surplus Energy Theory in which he emphasizes that man plays because of having excess energy. He visualized that the highest form of play could be the result between the sympathies and altruistic sentiments of individuals. Thus, he considered play as the basic need of human in which pleasure may occur. |
