Abstrakt: The article examines the effect of glutamic acid on the intelligence, social maturity and adjustment of a group of mentally retarded children. Glutamic acid appears to contribute to the increased oxygen uptake by brain tissue. The substances were fed to the children three times daily in amounts of 25 grams. However, majority of the children showed no improvement in areas of adjustment. Therefore, the study contradicts the conclusion of previous studies on the issue.
