The article presents the collaborative effort between Canaan Community Development Corporation of the Canaan Christian Church and the University of Louisville in the project called Canaan Conference Project that aims to empower African American male youth to academic excellence through strong role models. The poor academic success of these youngsters are caused by marginalization and barriers like poverty, poor self-esteem, drugs and many others. The conference used adult mentoring as a viable means of experiential learning for the youngsters and is structured in the understanding of their cognitive and emotional development. |
