The article presents a cytogenic study of Down syndrome patients with mental retardation in conjunction with a study of the response of these individuals to hepatitis B virus infection. A greater proportion of Down syndrome subjects indicated chronic hepatitis B surface antigenaemia than did the non-Down syndrome patients. Though fairly close proportion of Down and non-Down syndrome patients had hepatitis B surface antibody, the Down syndrome patients had a lower geometric mean titer. |
