Discusses the recommendations of the 1980s Willy Brandt report that warned that the current global economic system would lead to environmental degradation and worsening poverty in the third world as seen in the 2004 tsunami disaster. Series of measures proposed aimed to protect the environment and meet the needs of the world population, including third world debt forgiveness; World Trade Organisation restructuring to allow for proportional representation and decision-making by third world countries; Stabilization of world currencies. |
